Col Nodry

Dominique, from Bordeaux, came to spend a week hiking naked around Grenoble. I could not join him for his first outings, but I made a point of freeing myself on Friday to meet him and show him one of my itineraries. As he had already toured between Vercors, Matheysine and Chartreuse, I chose to take him to other landscapes, in the Beaumont. We are four of us, Patricia and Philippe, who have been with him since the beginning of his stay, are obviously there. The weather forecast announces a change of weather after these last days of spring; yet it is officially the first day of spring.
We park at the Col de l’Holme, between Saint Michel en Beaumont and Sainte Luce. We depart well dressed. In the forest, in the shade but sheltered from the wind and on the way up, we quickly get warm. We undress quickly. We get out of the forest to pass a nice snowy ridge. There, the wind starts blowing strongly. A southerly wind, certainly, but refreshing. Dominique and Patricia choose the windbreaker option, Philippe and I choose the bare skin option.
We reach the Nodry pass and then the summit of Côte Rouge at 2015m altitude. We dominate the sanctuary of Notre Dame de la Salette. On the other side, the Obiou and the summits of the Dévoluy, then at the back the whole barrier of the cliffs of the Vercors. Beautiful landscape, but we don’t linger! There is a sheltered corner in a snow hole at the foot of a tree for resting and picnicking. After the meal, we continue by a good descent running in deep snow. We sometimes sink up to our knees, but what does it warm !!! We pass by the sheepfold of Clos de l’Alpe then we join our morning itinerary by a long traverse on the side of the slope. We find the shelter of the forest to finish the walk. The small departmental road seems so little used, that we allow ourselves to cross it quietly to join the car and put on dry and warm clothes.
